What is the difference between a soul and a spirit?

Are you one of those who often get confused about the difference between a soul and a spirit?

If you think they are the same thing, reading the Bible could be a stressful experience for you. However, understanding the difference between the two helps a lot.

What is a soul?

The soul is the entity animating the body and offering it life. A few spiritual teachers regard it as the combination of emotions, will, and mind.

You do your thinking with your brains. However, it’s the soul dictating the quality of thoughts.

A soul can be distracted or focused, discouraged or vitalized.

If you are not happy with your life, especially when you are continuously seeking out meaning but never quite finding it, you might be regarded as a “restless soul” or, in extreme situations, “lost souls.”

What is the Difference between a Soul and a Spirit?

The root of the word spirit translates as wind or breath. You see, the soul is elemental from birth to death. It is unique and has an independent identity.

On the other hand, the spirit is a collective force that is unified and stretches into all things.

Nourishing your soul is essential to the balance and health of your life. If you take the time to nurture your spiritual well-being, you build space for positive things to flow into your life.

Moreover, you become more non-judgmental and resilient when life gets tough.

In short, you can improve the quality of your life and make yourself less prone to anxiety or depression when difficult times come around.

  1. Get out into nature – Nature connected humans to one another and a higher power. So much as breathing fresh air can offer you more energy and help you heal fast. Nature brings a connection to a higher power and a sense of soulful being.

  2. Detox from technology – Getting away from TVs, social media, computers, and phones can have a significant effect on your soul’s nourishment. Many studies have discovered a connection between substantial social media and a raised risk for loneliness, anxiety, self-harm, depression, and even suicidal thoughts.
  3. Listen to soothing music – Music is another excellent way to connect with something beyond yourself. It can lower stress, ease pain and lift your mood. New-age artists, ambient music, or classical instrumental music would be a good option. These more soothing genres will stimulate your imagination and relax your breathing.

  4. Sleep in – Deep rest and sleep can nurture your soul. Sleep is not only good for your mental and physical health, but it’s vital for your spiritual health too. Make sure you get that extra Zzzs and turn off your alarm clock.
  5. Indulge – No, you don’t have our permission to drink two beers, four slices of pizza, and two pieces of cake. However, moderate indulging in sweets could relieve stress. Involving your senses, including your sense of taste, is one of the fastest ways to let go of stress.

There you have it! We hope you now understand “what is the difference between a soul and a spirit.” Are you ready to nourish your soul?
