Tonkatsu or pork cutlet is a Japanese dish that looks as delicious as it tastes. Very simple and easy to make, this Recipe is an all-time hit on your favorite list.
The pork cutlet is seasoned with salt and pepper, and then it is coated with egg and breadcrumbs. When deep-fried, it turns out to be a fantastic crunchy cutlet.
It is usually served with Tonkatsu sauce, commercially available in stores, but you can also quickly make Tonkatsu sauce at home.
It is also filled with shredded cabbage and salad; it depends on how you want this Recipe’s variant.
Ingredients:
● 4 (1000 grams total) pork rib chops
(3-4 1-inch thick chops)
● 1/2 teaspoon salt
● White pepper (to taste)
● 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
● 1 large egg
● 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
● vegetable oil (for frying)
Tonkatsu sauce
● 1/4 cup ketchup
● 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
● 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
● 2 teaspoons soy sauce
For Serving
● 2 cups shredded cabbage
● 1 small cucumber, sliced
● 3-4 cherry tomatoes, cut into wedges
● Lime wedges
Directions:
- Combine all sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Prepare the two trays, the one with breadcrumbs and the other with well-beaten eggs. Heat the 1 and ½ inch oil in a heavy bottom pan at 320 degrees F.
- Season both sides of pork chops with a generous amount of salt and pepper. Then coat the chops evenly with flour.
- Dip the chops first in the eggs and then in breadcrumbs; lightly press the breadcrumbs on chops to ensure even coating.
- Cook the pork chop in oil for 10-15 minutes, or until the inertial temperature reaches 140 degrees F. Meanwhile, flip frequently to ensure even cooking.
- Drain the excess oil on a wire rack and allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Serve with Tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes.
