This delicious Indonesian condiment is made with hot chiles, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and coconut oil.

Its ingredients are similar to Mexican red salsa, but the method is different. It is so flavourful that it will awaken your taste buds to an exciting level.

It is also served with boiled rice or as a snack.

This Recipe for Sambal Tomat is a great, nutritious and healthy addition to spice up your meal!

Ingredients:                   

● 3 tablespoons coconut oil
● 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
● 2 tablespoons freshly chopped ginger
● 2 cups medium-hot red chiles, stemmed, seeded, and thinly sliced
● 1 1/4 cups cherry tomatoes
● ⅓ cup chopped shallots
● 1 red onion, sliced
● 1 teaspoon tamarind paste/1 teaspoon lemon juice
● 1⁄2 teaspoon brown sugar
● Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions for Sambal Tomat:

  1. Heat coconut oil over medium heat and saute ginger and garlic for few seconds; add in the onions, chiles, cherry tomatoes, and shallots; cook until veggies become soft.
  2. Remove from heat and let it cool for 5 minutes; put them in a pestle and mortar and crush until everything becomes soft like a sauce.
  3. Serve it as it is in the pestle and mortar or transfer to a serving dish. Serve with boiled rice or as you like.
